/ ABOUT
The thesis project centered around designing a range of analogue Watches on the concept of ‘Personal Time’, incorporating physical interactions and exploring watch mechanisms. The process involved studying the relationship between Time and People and the associated personal and cultural perception of time, thus exploring the qualitative aspect of Time. Based on the derived inferences, an interactive and quirky collection of Watches was designed- the Mores Collection. The project was in many ways an experiment in Personal Timekeeping and Time-based Artefacts.
MORES is a the Latin word meaning: the essential or characteristic customs and conventions of a community. Each Object of time served as an Artefact of a time-people relation and answered the inquiring questions raised through the thesis.
/ STORY BEHIND THE WATCH
Throughout the day, people track activities, keep record of tasks, count and count-down. With the Mores Code, one can excitedly countdown to a birthday, meticulously track the meetings and tasks for the day or consciously stick to the health regime and make sure to have the right number of glasses of water. One can count and track a variety of things with just the push of a button. The count on the Watch face is each one’s personal time code.
The process of designing the Watch artefacts involved using the existing quartz mechanisms, hacking them, and building on them a new function and interaction. The project was done in four broad stages, namely – Ground Work, Building Stories, Developing the Concept and Making the final Watches.
